Walter J. Buck Obituary

Walter J. Buck, 93, of Elkdale died Friday morning at home. His wife Mary Faye Riggs Buck died this past Sunday March 5th. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on October 2.


Born November 8, 1923 in Spanger, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Chomko Buck. Walter was a WWII Army veteran serving in the 82nd Airborne. His decorations included the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a devote Catholic and member of Ascension Parish, who always had a rosary in hand praying. Prior to retirement, Walter worked on the family farm and later owned the Hilltop Bar in Forest City. Walter was adored by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.


He is survived by children Walter Buck and wife Lynda, Owego, NY; Mary Sheerin, St. Louis, MO; Linda Buck, Forest City; Lisa Hescock and husband Kyle, Eugene, OR; and Stephen Buck and companion Rachel, at home; 9 grandchildren Jennifer, Michelle, Bobbie Jo, Ashlee, Amanda, Alycia, Kylie, Michael and James; Great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.


Also preceded in death by sons Ronald and Thomas; a daughter Elizabeth Rebernick; a grandson Matthew; a granddaughter Elizabeth; and 11 siblings.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Viewing will be Sunday from 5 - 7 pm at the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Forest City.
