On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, Willard “Bill” A. Hurley, Jr of Union Dale, PA, slipped away into the arms of our Lord after a brief stay at Sacred Heart Hospice in Scranton.
Bill spent the majority of his time living life to its fullest in northeastern Pennsylvania. His parents, Fae Gilley Hurley and Willard Arvol Hurley, Sr. were from Bel Air, Maryland. Bill graduated from high school in New Martinsville, WV. Upon graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps and began work as a Union Carpenter, with one of his first assignments at Stillwater Dam. In the early part of Bill’s career working on the dam, he frequented a coffee shop on North Main St in Forest City. Little did he know that the waitress, Carol Soroka, at that coffee shop would become his wife and soul mate for the next 60 plus years. Carol and Bill married in 1962 and raised three children. Throughout the years, Bill was an avid fisherman and hunter, but the one thing he truly enjoyed was watching his granddaughter, Eliana Pendrak, grow and flourish. She will forever be the apple of his eye!
Bill is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Carol Soroka Hurley, his son William “Bill” Hurley, (companion Diane Whitney), his daughter, Dr. Tammy Carlson-Pendrak (husband Stephen), and second daughter, Jo-Ellen Hurley-Farry (husband Michael), Bill was the oldest of 8 children, surviving siblings as follows: LaVerne Yocum, Larry Hurley, Dean Hurley, Joseph Hurley, Linda Snyder, Jeffrey Hurley.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and younger brother Jack Hurley.
Arrangements by the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home were private at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Willard’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St in Dunmore, PA 18510.
