Susan C. Dovin, 80, of Browndale, died peacefully at home on Monday, surrounded by her family, after a period of illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph W. Dovin, her husband of 60 years.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Carolyn Ross Griebel. She was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and Lackawanna Junior College, Scranton.
Susan was employed prior to retirement by S.C.I.-Waymart, and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City.
Susan will be remembered for her kindness, grace, and quiet elegance. Beautiful both inside and out, she had a gift for making the people she loved feel special, and she never missed a chance to do so.
She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and an extraordinary grandmother. Her family will always remember movie nights on the couch, night swims, and her famous pool parties. She was a great cook, known for a good-natured panic in the kitchen — always somehow convinced until the last minute that dinner would not make it to the table on time. She was also a talented seamstress and an avid gardener known for her beautiful flowers. She delighted in watching the hummingbirds that visited her yard and in giving her dahlias as gifts to the people she loved. For much of her life, she cherished time spent at her aunt's cottage on Elk Lake, which held a special place in her heart.
Susan is survived by her two children, Chris Dovin of Browndale and Joseph Dovin of Richmondale; three grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Lily; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Griebel.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Home Health Care Professionals & Hospice for the compassionate care they provided in relieving her suffering during her final days.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Kevin M. LesjackFuneral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City, on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, officiated by the Rev. William McGinty, rector of Christ Church.
