Stanley J. Zurich, 90, of Forest City, died Tuesday at the Forest City Nursing Center.
Born March 15, 1919, in Forest City, he was the son of the late Carl and Stella Zwicharowski. Stanley attended Forest City High School and left to attend the Conservation Corp. He was retired military, 22 years in the US Army. He was at Pearl Harbor, a combat veteran of WWII and Korea, and received two purple hearts in Korea. Along with numerous military medals, Stanley was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge with Star. He left his military career to take care of his widowed sister Veronica and her children Patricia, Mark, and Dan. He was a retired guard at Farview, a member of the American Legion Post 524, and a past member of Wivey's Golf League. Stanley's favorite interests always included his great niece and nephews, Kerry, Mark, and Michael.
The family would like to thank the staffs at the Forest City Personal Care, Forest City Nursing Center, and Home Healthcare Hopice for their kind and compassionate care.
He is survived by two sisters Jean Kubas, Toms River, NJ and Josephine Baron, Elmira, NY, and a niece and caregiver Patricia Zefran, Forest City, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother Bruno "Red" Zurich, and 4 sisters, Mary Franceski, Helen Supon, Veronica Slick, and Dorothy Zwicharowski.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 10am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Forest City. Friends may call at the church 9:30 until mass time.
