Stanley J. "Pops" "Coach" Poloncic, 97, of Browndale, went to be with the Lord, Monday afternoon at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.
Born November 26, 1923, in Browndale, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary Zeleznikar Poloncic. Stanley was a member of Ascension Parish. After graduating Forest City High School, he attended the University of Scranton, worked at the Singer Sewing Machine Company and later entered the Navy, where he served during WWII.
He married his wife Bridget Leschinski in Simpson, and then moved to Wappingers Falls, NY.
Stanley worked for IBM for over 36 years. During his tenure he was awarded several accolades for outstanding innovations and inventions.
While living in N Y, his passion was coaching little league, for over 31 years, which got him into the Dutchess County Sports Hall of Fame. Up until his dying days he watched college basketball and golf. Even at the age of 97 he could tell you stories.
After the passing of his wife, Stanley moved back to Browndale to take care of his sister, Marian. That is where he met his beloved companion Stephie Grum. Stanley and Stephi would enjoy long country rides in the car and liked to count the deer. He knew every inch of every road in at least a 50 mile radius. Stanley was a true craftman and woodworker. He loved making toy cars for kids and whirleygigs which decorate many of his friends and neighbors yards. He even made a replica fire truck, which is displayed a the the Browndale Fire Company.
Stanley and his young pal Max, passed some time away talking sports and feeding peanuts to the chipmunks in his back yard training them to do tricks. He enjoyed attending many of Max's sporting events. He enjoyed Sunday conversations with his son Stanley. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are a son and his best friend Stanley F. Poloncic and loving daughter in law, Missy, Maricopa, AZ.

Preceded in death by his wife Bridget C. Poloncic, a sister, Marian Poloncic; and a loving companion for 20 years Stephanie Grum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City from 9 – 9:45. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
