Joseph K. Loomis, Sr, 68, of New milford died Sunday afternoon at Endless Mountains Health Systems, Montrose.
Born in Carbondale October 8, 1945, he is the son of the late Kenneth Loomis and the late Mary Woodysheck Rebernik. He was raised in Vandling, PA and graduated from Forest City High School before moving to Levittown, PA. He currently split his time between his home in New Milford, PA and Lawrenceville, NJ. He was a tool and die maker at General Motors in Ewing, NJ for 30 years before he retired in 2000. After he retired he accomplished a life-long dream of building his own home. He loved to roller skate and was one of the Tuesday night skaters at the Holiday Skating Center in Delanco, NJ. Joe also competed in dance skating for several years and won many awards. He loved hunting, growing fruits and vegetables and watching the deer feed on the apple trees on his farm. Joe kept busy with many projects and always loved to "tinker around" as he put it. He was happiest when he was busy. Joe was a kind, loving, generous man who always had a story to tell. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Robin Smith of Lawrenceville, NJ, his four children Joseph Loomis Jr; Margaret Layton and husband Chris; Diana Farmer and husband Harry; and Red Loomis; a sister, Margreta Peterlin and husband William; 12 grandchildren,;2 great-grandchildren; three aunts Ellen Lafferty, Catherine Malsh, and Margaret Smith; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe would like you to know that he will be smiling down at all of you from high on the hill on his farm.
Memorial Service will be Saturday at 2:00 pm from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City, PA. Visitation from 1:00 pm to service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
