Sam Hemkes

Sam Hemkes, 84, of Orson, PA, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. He was the husband of the late Cora J. Hemkes, who died November 18, 2004.

Born January 14, 1924, in Sint-Jacobiparochie, Netherlands, son of the late Henry and Margaret Dijkman Hemkes. He formerly resided in Paterson, NJ before moving to Orson in 1971. He liked to oil paint, bowl, and go horseback riding. He also enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife from his kitchen window. He will be deeply missed by his family.

He is survived by two sons Samuel Hemkes, Hawley and Cory Hemkes, Orson; Three brothers, Daniel, David, and William; two sisters Emma and Izabel; six grandchildren, Christopher Hemkes, Lori Keathley, Paul Seabridge, Tamara Maszczak, Kimberly Nemchik, and Janine Pille; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Seabridge and a grandson Edward J.; two brothers Timothy and Peter; and a sister Trina.

Services are private by the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St, Forest City, PA.
