Ruth E. McAndrew

April 22, 1918

Ruth E. McAndrew, 95, of Vandling, died Saturday evening. Her husband, Dr. Lorain A. McAndrew died in 1966.

Born April 22, 1918, in Pleasant Mount, daughter to the late Bert and Iva Stone Kennedy. Ruth was a graduate of Pleasant Mount High School and Penn State University, She was a member of the Forest City United Methodist Church. She worked as a dental hygenist in Alabama during WWII. After the war as a dietitian at Carbondale General Hospital. She was a Home Ec teacher in Pleasant Mount and a substitute teacher at Forest City Regional High School. Ruth owned and operated Lake Lorain Golf Course and was partner in the Lake Lorain Bar and Grill. She served on the Vandling Council and FCRS Board of Education. She was active in the BPW as an officer and Woman of the Year. She enjoyed helping out at her son's office in Vandling.

She was an avid golfer and bowler, playing in lacal leagues. She loved playing cards, especially Poker and Bridge with her many friends. She was a talented crafter and and avid reader. As the matriarch of the family, she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them at Bigelow Lake living up to her nickname "the Queen."

She is survived by children, Dr. Patrick McAndrew and wife Toni; Cathy Walker and husband Paul; and John McAndrew and wife Mary Lou; a daughter-in-law, Debi Zavada; a sister Laneta Fries, 8 grandchildren, Lori Knott, Paul "PB" Walker, Ryan McAndrew, Dr. Chad Walker, Meghan McAndrew, Christopher Walker, Marhia McAndrew, and Stephanie Haggerty; 7 great grandchildren, Bridget, Cole, and John Knott, Kierra Mcandrew Scalzo, Kennedy Walker, Hayden and Preston Haggerty, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son Dr. Richard McAndrew, 2 brothers, Claude Kennedy and Bert Kennedy, and 3 sisters Helen Moase, Dorothy Dorflinger, and Mary Prince.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 am from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City, with services by the Rev. Barbara Snyder, pastor of Waverly United Methodist Church. Interment Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

Friends may call Monday from 5-8 pm.

Memorial contributions can be made in Ruth's name to the Pleasant Mount Historical Society or the Pleasant Mount Library.
