Robert Klemens Obituary

Robert Scott Klemens passed away suddenly while visiting in Florida on July 31, 2024. 

Bob was born on September 20, 1952 in Rockville Centre, NY, he is the son of the late Robert and Peg Klemens. His family moved to California when Bob was 5 years old. In 1966 Bob’s family moved to Geneva Switzerland where he attended the International School of Geneva (Ecolint). Bob rode public transportation or a scooter to school every day. His dad worked at Lockheed Aircraft International and his mom was a stay at home mom. Bob was an avid snow skier and skied in the Alps. He skied the Jungfrau Ski Region in Switzerland. He was a hunter, fisherman, carpenter, reader (Clive Cussler), carpenter, a world traveler, RVer, and aviator.

Above all, Bob was a husband, a proud father, a friend, and a great conversationalist. Bob and his family enjoyed extensive travel in a truck camper as his dad took Bob, his brother Mark, his sister Joan, and their mom to tour Switzerland and surrounding countries every weekend. Bob’s interest in aviation started at the Booker Airfield in High Wycombe Buckinghamshire, England where he learned to fly gliders.

Bob graduated from Ecolint in 1971. He attended the University of Geneva in Switzerland graduating in 1975. Bob worked at Lockheed International in Maidenhead, England, Courtesy Patrol at Elk Mountain Ski Resort, Endicott Johnson in Forest City, Airport Manager and Chief Flight Instructor at Seaman’s Airport in Factoryville, PA, Adjunct Teacher, Keystone College, La Plume, PA,  Aviation Physics, and Bank of America in Moosic, PA.

Bob was a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol and was Squadron Commander of the Endless Mountains Composite Squadron in Tunkhannock, PA. Bob was a search and rescue pilot. His service with the Scranton Composite Squadron 201 focused on search and rescue, emergency services, and aerospace education. Bob was an Assistant Scoutmaster for 10 years with Troop 66 in Dunmore, PA. He served on the Board of the Lewis Lake Association in Union Dale, PA. Bob was a certified CFII single and multiengine land instrument pilot who had over 9,000 landings.

Bob is lovingly survived by his wife, Karen, son Bobby and his wife Tabitha, a treasured granddaughter Roselyn, a brother Mark and wife Tammy in Temple, PA, a sister Joan and husband Dave, Belvue, NE, Aunt Terri McMurtrie, NC, their families, and his cousins all of whom he cherished.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10-11am at Nativity Church, 833 Orchard St. Scranton, Funeral Service at 11:00, Interment Union Dale Cemetery. Donations may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
