Patrick J. Flannery passed away suddenly while traveling home to Pennsylvania on May 13, 2024 in Lorton, VA. Pat was born on November 16, 1950. Pat grew up in the Hill Section of Scranton on Harrison Avenue across from his grandfather’s corner grocery store. He developed lifelong friendships playing in the neighborhood, East Scranton Little League, and swimming at Nay Aug Park. Pat loved animals. The first dog he purchased for 3 cents from a friend when Pat was 8 years old. Ginger Applebee was his forever dog. He attended the Chapel School on Olive Street and graduated high school from Scranton Tech in 1969. Pat completed two years of college focusing on accounting and business later in life.
Pat worked for the railroad and road the train out of Port Jervis, NJ in the early 1970’s. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard working in Communications. Pat managed the Six Pence Pub on Moosic Street during the 1970’s and 80’s. He enjoyed sponsoring the Six Pence softball team and dart board competitions on Monday nights. The Six Pence was often the first stop for family and friends returning to the area for holiday celebrations. Pat was the proprietor and owner of Flannery Case Beverage on Moosic Street in Scranton, PA. Pat ran the family business during the 1990’s until his retirement in 2021. The family business was started by his dad in 1950.
Pat loved to go deep sea fishing with his friends and obtained a pilot’s and seaman’s certificate from the United States Power Squadron at Delhigh in 1988. He obtained a private pilot’s license to fly single engine aircraft in 1993 and enjoyed renting Piper Cherokee airplanes. He was a member of the AOPA. He enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, baseball, airplanes, boating, travel, deep sea fishing, and playing guitar. Pat was truly passionate about playing guitar. He received his first guitar at age 7. He played classical and electric guitars with musicians and friends most of his life, copyrighting a few of his songs. He loved to travel and research his heritage and historic areas. He often vacationed with his sister Karen and family going to his favorite theme parks – Disney, Universal, and Sea World. Pat loved the Florida climate.
He is lovingly survived by his brother Marty Flannery, Scranton, a sister Karen Flannery Klemens and spouse Robert Klemens, a nephew Robert P Klemens , his wife Tabitha Klemens, a grandniece, Dunmore, and first cousins who were his first playmates and lifelong friends.
Pat is preceded in death by his mom, Ruth (Hayres ) Flannery on February 25, 1993, and his dad, Martin J. Flannery on May 14, 2010.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 am in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton. Visitation 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. In the church. Arrangements entrusted to the Kevin M Lesjack Funeral Home, Forest City.
