Obituary

Dick Vauter, 78, of Clifford Twp., died Saturday morning at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia after a brief illness. His wife of 38 years is the former Jennifer Statkun.

Born February 13, 1945, in Carbondale, he is the son of the late Paul and Marie Parker Vauter. Dick was the main owner/operator of Panorama Golf Course for the majority of its almost 60 years after constructing it with his father from 1962 to its opening in 1964, later passing it on to his 3 children.

Dick was a Vietnam Veteran having served with the 815th Army Corps of Engineers from 1966-1968 as a heavy equipment operator. He was a former Clifford Township supervisor and most recently was serving on the Clifford township planning commission.

An avid sports/outdoors man, Dick was active in the community of racing and hunting. He was one of the founding members of the Richmond Hunting Club, had his own private hunting club, and was a member of the Mans Club. He loved and looked forward to hunting season every year and was a major supporter of the 2A. He enjoyed both downhill and cross country skiing. He loved spending time in nature, walking his property and yearly autumn trips to Vermont with his wife Jennifer.

Dick was a farmer from birth, having grown up on Meadow Breeze Farm, now Panorama Golf Course. In his later years he looked forward to growing corn in the fields with his many Farmall tractors that he passionately collected and restored. One of his biggest hobbies was motor racing. He went from racing cars on the Stillwater stretch & snowmobiles in the winter months to racing on the many dirt ovals from Clifford to Brewertown, NY, this passion he passed on to his oldest son Daniel.

Surviving are his two sons Daniel Vauter and wife MaryAnn, and Benjamin Vauter; a daughter Rachel Vauter, all of Clifford Twp. Three granddaughters, Vivienna and Danorra Vauter and Annabella Tayoune; a sister Beverly Vauter, Clifford Twp and grand-pup, Mosey (a special dog who had broken his legs whom he cherished).

Cremation is through the Kevin M Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street Forest City.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 22nd starting at 6PM at Haymow Restaurant at Panorama Golf Course. All Family and friends are welcome to attend bringing with them their joyful memories and pictures of Dick’s life.
