Michael Drop Obituary

Michael Andrew Drop, 77, of Vandling, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Kathleen Kane.

Born August 23, 1947 in Carbondale, Michael was the son of the late John and Mary (Risboskin) Drop, Sr. He was a devoted member of Ascension Parish in Forest City. A Vietnam veteran, Mike volunteered and honorably served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was assigned to the 443rd Organizational Maintenance Squadron (OMS) at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, part of the Military Airlift Command (MAC). As a crew chief on a C-141A Starlifter, he later served in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam where he took part in missions bringing home America's fallen soldiers - a duty he carried out with quiet pride. After his service, Mike became a member of the Simpson VFW and Forest City American Legion.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. He was also an avid coin collector and made sure his cherished Lionel Trains ran around the base of the tree each Christmas. His love for the Phillies and Eagles were unmatched.

Never one to shy away from a good time, Mike once brought traffic to a near standstill in Forest City while playing his accordion from the bucket of a front-end loader hoisted high above Main Street - a moment that perfectly captured his humor, heart, and love of entertaining.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Patrick Drop and wife, Amanda, of Maine, Katherine Drop, currently living in Massachusetts, and Michael J. Drop, Forest City; two grandchildren: Madeleine and Wyatt; and his sister Rita Witiak, Forest City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers - Frank "Frankie" Drop, John "Cookie" Drop, Jr. and Joseph "Chappie" Drop - his sister, Mary Ann Gliha - as well as his faithful and beloved dog, Frank.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Wayne Memorial for their dedicated and loving care during his final days.
