Mary A. Zigon, 90, of Forest City, died Tuesday morning at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center. Her husband Clarence Zigon passed away in 1976.
Born March 13, 1934, in Forest City, she was the daughter of the late Bruno and Sophie Sardinski. She was a graduate of Forest City High School and a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church. Her church life was very active: a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, choir, lector at weekday mass, and a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She had worked as a sewing machine operator at local garment factories and had retired from the Forest City Nursing Center where she had been a housekeeping supervisor. She was a 19 year member of “Palette Pals” art class and produced numerous oil paintings. She also volunteered at the polls in local elections and for Red Cross blood drives.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center for the compassionate care given to Mary.
Mary is survived by her daughter Joan (Steve) Balog, Hilton Head Island, SC; a sister Margaret Armstrong, Forest City; four grandchildren, Justine (Andrew) Burrell, Prompton; Sara (Joshua) Wasylyk, Waymart; Marcus (Mandy) Balog, Herndon, VA; and Valerie Balog, Taos, NM; three great grandchildren, Jase Burrell, Calvin Balog, and Rosemary Balog.
She was also preceded in death by a son Thomas Zigon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 am in Ascension Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, 741 Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Forest City. Visitation at the church from 9am until mass time.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City.
