Martha Piorkowski, 79, of Uniondale, died Wednesday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. She was the widow of Charles J. Piorkowski, who died in 1992.
Born February 3, 1931, in Vandling, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Bogataj O'Block. She was a graduate of Vandling High School, and prior to retirement she was a homemaker and she worked for several area garment and shower curtain factories. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the KSKJ, and the American Slovenian Heritage Club, all of Forest City. Martha quilted for the Roman Catholic Community of Forest City and at home, and she liked to bake and cook. She also enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City and Monticello. She was a loving mother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are a son Charles C. Piorkowski, Uniondale, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters Anna M. Sheroshek, Sylvia Onufrak, and Mary Poterjoy, and a brother Frank O'Block.
Funeral will be Monday at 10 am from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am from St. Joseph's Church, Forest City, celebrated by Msgr. Stanley Piorkowski. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Forest City.
