Marjorie (Poterjoy) Burrell

Marjorie (Poterjoy) Burrell, 91, of Union Dale, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale.

Born April 30, 1932, and raised in Vandling, Marge was the daughter of the late Frank and Sophie (Orasin) Poterjoy. She was a graduate of Forest City High School and a Registered Nurse from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton.

Marge married the late Gerald (Jerry) Burrell of Carbondale in 1954, and the couple lived in Newark, New Jersey, later settling in West Paterson where they raised their family. Marge and Jerry retired to their lake home on Lewis Lake in Union Dale in 1995.

Her proudest achievements included her long career as a Registered Nurse, a passion which she shared with her daughter, and her role as matriarch of her large family as the mother of 3, grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 12, soon to be 13. She was an avid reader, and loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and the color purple. Marge and Jerry traveled extensively over the years to many destinations in the United States and across the globe. She enjoyed bird watching (especially hummingbirds!), an activity that she loved to share with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also especially proud of her husband Jerry’s and grandson Jeffrey’s military service to their country.

Marge is survived by her son David and wife Cindy of Union Dale and their family: grandson Andrew Burrell and wife Justine, and great grandson Jase of Prompton; grandson Daniel Burrell and wife Brittany, great granddaughter Makayla and great grandsons Collin and Cody of Forest City; grandson Jeffrey Burrell and wife Melanie, and great grandson Bryce of Olyphant; her daughter Pamela McCall and husband Brian of Newfoundland NJ and their family: grandson Patrick McCall and great grandsons Finn and Lucas residing in Austin TX; grandson Kyle McCall and wife Alexandra, and great granddaughters Shea and Lia of Pompton Plains NJ; granddaughter Erin McCall and husband Eddie Brinx, great grandsons Kieran and Julian, and great granddaughter Raelyn of Newfoundland NJ; grandson Connor McCall of Newfoundland NJ; and son Richard. Also surviving are sister Marianne Cocchiaro and husband Frank of Houston TX; brother Frank Poterjoy and wife Nancy of Vandling; sister Carolyn Lodato and husband John of Niantic CT; sister-in-law Felicia Poterjoy of Browndale; sister-in-law Ann Burrell of Binghamton, NY; sister-in-law Gloria Burrell of Carbondale; sister-in-law Mary Lou McPhail of Vestal NY; and numerous nieces and nephews, along with a slew of friends.

She was preceded in death by brother Carl Poterjoy and sister Frances (Poterjoy) Donovan.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Church, 741 Delaware St., Forest City. Friends are asked to go directly to church.
