Lucille E. Kennedy

Lucille E. Kennedy, 87, of Pleasant Mount, died Monday morning at Northumberland Village, Northumberland, PA where she resided for the past 5 years. Her husband, Claude W. Kennedy died in 2001.

Born in June 1, 1924 in Forest City, daughter of the late Dominick and Elizabeth Jannicelli Marchiony. She was a graduate of Marywood University, did post graduate work at the University of Scranton, and was a teacher for 30 years.

Lucille began her career in Pleasant Mount, Thompson, and Lakewood, PA. She did the majority of her teaching in Forest City Regional School district, where she taught middle school and high school English. She retired in 1988. She was well respected by teachers, parents, and students and is remembered for her willingness to chaperon bus trips and school events. She willingly went to basketball playoffs, senior class trips, and even went to Europe with students. She was responsible for senior home room and graduation programs along with the traditional Veteran's Day and Memorial Day programs.

Lucille was active and held offices in school, civic, and church organizations including the PTA, American Legion, Belmont Fire Co. Women's Auxiliary, and the Council of Women of St. James Parish. She also served as Wayne County Republican Committee Woman. She received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Citizen for fifty years of continuous voting. Lucille was an avid follower of baseball, especially the Yankees. She loved those Yankees! She was a caring and loving mother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are 5 daughters and their spouses, Claudia Overacker and Mike Cipollo, Troy, NY; Suzanne and Thomas Fitzgerald, Northumberland; Denise and John Levchak, Allentown, Michele and Robert Fenstermaker, Daleville; and Iva and Greg Swingle, Forest City; one sister Jeanne Gehrig; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Robert.

Funeral will be Friday at 9:30 from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Pleasant Mount. Interment Wheeler Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Mount.

Viewing Thursday, 5-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made in Lucille's name to St. James Church or Belmont Fire Company.
