Joanne Wychowanec, 73, of Pleasant Mount, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale following a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Wychowanec.
Born on September 24, 1952, in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne Lacek Zologa. She was a graduate of Forest City Regional High School and Penn State University.
Prior to her retirement, Joanne worked for Wayne Highlands Medical Group. She was a longtime member of the Honesdale Country Club, where she achieved the distinction of Club Champion 13 times. In recognition of her athletic accomplishments, she was inducted into the Wayne Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
Joanne took great pride in her flower gardens and had been a member of the Board at the Pleasant Mount Library. She also enjoyed crafting and was especially fond of making gnomes for family, friends and craft shows.
In addition to her husband Ronald, she is survived by her sisters, Kathy Zologa of Pleasant Mount and Sue Kulasinsky of Vandling, as well as her Aunt Addie, several nieces, nephews and her cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, 361 Great Bend Turnpike, Pleasant Mount, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City.
