Jean Curtis Bebla Obituary

Jean LaVerne Curtis Bebla, 90, of Vandling, died peacefully at home. She was the widow of Paul Bebla, who died in 2008, and her first husband, Erwin L. Curtis who died in 1986.

Born July 26, 1931, she was a lifelong resident of the Forest City area and the daughter of the late Stanley Moken and Jennie Planishek Moken. She was an honor graduate and secretary-treasurer of the Forest City High School Class of 1949. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Greek Ukrainian Catholic Church, Simpson and previously a member of Sacred Heart Church, Forest City.

Jean LaVerne retired in 1993 as the board secretary-business manager of the Forest City Regional School District after 30 years of dedicated service. In earlier years she was employed as a book keeper by Frank Gaydosh, Big Cheif Markets.

She is survived by two sons, Richard and wife Kim Curtis, Vandling and Ronald, Jr. and wife Tamara, Browndale; a brother Anthony Moken and wife Susan, Baltimore, MD; a sister-in-law Dorothy Ann Bebla, Simpson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She had a deep love and dedication to her family and had a strong work ethic. She will always be remembered by many as an exceptionally generous and caring person. LaVerne enjoyed planning and preparing family holiday and special occasion dinners at her home that were full of happiness and laughter and good food.

She is preceded in death by three sons, Ronald Paul Curtis, Sr, Alan Lloyd Curtis, and Leonard John Curtis; a sister, Rosemarie Novak; four daughters in law, Donna Curtis, Michele Curtis, Bonnie Downton and Donna Sredenschek; step brothers, John, Leo, and Thomas Moken; step sisters, Alice Mikulewicz, Blanche Hessling, Agnes Rizner, and Margaret Kowal.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St, Forest City with Divine Liturgy at 10:30 AM in SS Peter & Paul Greek Ukrainian Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse St., Simpson by the Rev. Myron Myronyuk. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Richmondale. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM.
