Francis L. O'Neill

Francis L. O'Neill, 79, of Honesdale, died on Wednesday evening at Allied Hospice, Scranton. His wife of 54 years is the former Margaret Foley.

Born May 4, 1944, in Honesdale, Francis was the son of the late Jerome and Veronica Flynn O'Neill. He was a graduate of the Forest City High School and was the owner of Francis L. O'Neill General Contracting which he operated for 57 years. He was known for his quality building and custom homes, which can be found throughout the countryside. He was a member of the Wayne County Builders Association. He and his wife were also the proprietors of O'Neill's General Store for almost 20 years. On the weekend, Francis was often found tinkering with and riding on his Farmall tractors on the family farm.

Francis was a hardworking, loving husband, father and papa. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish. He was a former supervisor of Mt. Pleasant Township, a former Forest City Regional School Board member, and a PA National Guardsman. Throughout his free time in recent years, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren, especially attending their sports events. In addition to attending those, he loved to give the grand kids rides on his side-by-side throughout the property. Francis could frequently be found shooting the breeze with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed a good chat and a cup of coffee at local restaurants.

Also surviving are three children, Teresa Carlin and husband Dave, Honesdale; Tim O'Neill, Honesdale; and Kerry Lombardi and husband Darren, Honesdale; two sisters Rita O'Neill, Honesdale; and Catherine O'Neill, SC; a brother Raymond O'Neill and partner Stewart Griffin, NC; and sister-in-law, Mary O’Neill, MD. He was very proud of his four grandchildren: Lucy, Claire, Sophia, and Aidan Lombardi. He also has many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by siblings Paul, Charlie, and Rose O'Neill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday June 15th at 11:00 am in St. James Church, Pleasant Mount. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 in the church. Interment in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Pleasant Mount.
