Ellen T. Simon, 95, of Vandling, died Tuesday afternoon at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. Her husband John Robert Simon died in 1987.
Born April 14, 1915, in Vandling, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Cox Kilpatrick. She was a graduate and salutatorian of her class in the Vandling School. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, Forest City, it's Altar and Rosary Society, and was active in the Thursday Evening Prayer Group. Prior to retirement she worked for the Telephone Company, the Vandling Post Office, and was a seamstress at area dress factories. She was a member of the ILGWU. Ellen volunteered her time to drive area residents that couldn't get to church, and she drove until she was 90. She was a talented sewer, who enjoyed needlepoint, and made crafts and clothes. She was the matriarch and caregiver for the family. She was noted for her sense of humor and was famous for her cream puffs at the church bake sales. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are a son Eugene and wife A. Kealii Simon, Hawaii; two daughters Mary and husband John Cook, Waymart, and Roberta and husband James Logar, Browndale; 9 grandchildren, Sean, Christopher, Arielle, Nicholas, Aaron, Joshua, Gabriel, Kelsey, and Caelin; 5 great grandchildren, Chelsea, Alexandria, Barbara, Dakota, and Montana, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers Francis and Joseph, and a sister Mary.
Funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 am from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, Forest City.
Viewing Friday, 5-8 pm.
