Ellen M. Lafferty, 93, of Vandling, died Sunday morning at Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center. Her husband Weldon Lafferty died in 2005.
Born January 18, 1928 in Vandling, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kelly Woodyshek. Ellen earned a BSN degree from NYU, a MBA and Masters in Teaching and Hospital Administration from Wagner College. Prior to retirement she was CEO for Scentique. LTD. and Administrator of Oakland Children's Hospital, CA. She was an avid skier, golfer and oil painter. She loved to teach and write. Ellen was the author of “Legal Aspects of Health Care; and “National Leader in Healthcare.” She was very creative, and enjoyed singing and acting. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter Ellen and husband Dr. Manel Masankay, Vandling; a son Michael Durbin and wife Cindy, CO; a sister Margaret Smith, VT; Step children Darlene, Pauline, and Gail; grandchildren Maria, Melissa, Manny, Matthew, Alexandra, and Nicholas; great grandchildren Kylie, Riley, Ashley, Ava, Addison, Ainsley, Manuel Michael Jr.; three great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Also preceded in death by brother Joseph Woodyshek and a sisters Ann Sherry, Mary Rebernick, and Catherine Malsch.
A memorial visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6pm in the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery.
