Edward John Bochniak, 91, of Endwell, NY, died Monday, at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, NY.
Ed was born July 8, 1932 in Forest City, PA. He was the son of the late John Bochniak and Stella Rudgunus of Forest City and later Pittston.
Ed was a graduate of Pittston High School. Graduated cum laude from Georgetown University in 1954, also earning recognition as a Distinguished Military Student in the ROTC. He later completed graduate work in education at SUNY Cortland.
Ed was a star quarterback at Pittston High, leading his team to a conference championship in 1949 and was selected captain of the area’s “All-Scholastic Eleven.” He won a football scholarship to Georgetown, then a Division One team. Georgetown dropped its football program after Ed’s freshman year but honored Ed’s scholarship.
Ed served in the United States Air Force as a navigator. An Instructor for the initial class at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, class of 1959. His last rank was Captain.
Ed taught English and Social Studies at Whitney Point High School from 1962 until his retirement in 1986. He was also a football coach there for a few years.
Ed had been a resident of Endwell, NY since 1979 and a communicant at the Church of the Holy Family in Endwell. He was a kind man and a wonderful Uncle who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by nephew John Scott (Jane), Syracuse, NY and nieces Eileen Scott, Camp Hill, and Amy Scott, Mechanicsburg, as well as great nieces Elizabeth, Mariana, Chandler and great nephew Owen.
He was also predeceased by his sister Mary Ann Scott, sister Margaret Bochniak and brother Bernard Bochniak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday November 6th at 11:00am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City, Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Forest City. Viewing will be Monday from 10 to 10:45am in the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City.
