Beverly Watson, 79, of Lakewood, died Friday evening at VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. Her husband Barry Watson died in 2001.
Born April 2, 1935, in Minooka, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathryn Pedick Higgins. She was a graduate of Preston High School and a member of St. Juliana's Church, Rock Lake.
Wearing many different hats, Beverly worked first as a Fiscal Clerk for Regal Production and then began her life long career with Block and Hexter Vacation Center. Starting in the kitchen, Beverly then expanded to Office Management and in her later years, Dining Room Supervisor.
Beverly was very active in both local and state politics holding the position of Vice Chairman of Wayne County Republicans as well as Committee Woman for numerous years. She was an elected official, holding the office of Preston Township Supervisor where she served as Chairwoman. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, Parent Teacher Association and was a dedicated supporter of St Francis of Assisi Kitchen.
As a member of a band, Beverly was a fantastic drummer that led to her being offered a scholarship to attend the University of Miami to play in their band. She attended numerous night classes at the University of Scranton as she had a constant thirst for knowledge.
Surviving are daughter, Mary Fitzsimmons and husband James, Browndale; a sister Dolores Indivino, Port Richie, FL; three grandchildren, Ashley and Logan Fitzsimmons and Kathryn Watson; a great grandchild Keeghan Carson; Nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Also preceded in death is a daughter Fawn Watson.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 am from the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Interment in Watson Farm Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
