Arthur B. Yanchitis

Arthur B. Yanchitis, 87, of Forest City, died Sunday afternoon surrounded by his loving family at home. He is survived by his wife of 69 years and high school sweetheart, Marion Berneski Yanchitis.

Born October 9, 1935, in Carbondale, he is the son of the late Benjamin and Beatrice (Thomas) Yanchitis. Art was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City and retired after a long career with the US Postal service. He enjoyed sports, gaming, and travel, particularly to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

He is also survived by his son Arthur Yanchitis and companion Jennifer, Downingtown; daughters Mary Ellen Prince and husband Dave, Forest City; Judith Booths and husband Kurt, Forest City; and Carol Heikkila and husband Mike, Vestal, NY; 11 grandchildren Lisa, Jackie, Brian, Megan, Sara, Brittney, Kevin, Patrick, Paul, Kim, and Katrina; 5 great grandchildren; honorary daughters Pamela and Cathy; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son Paul Yanchitis; a daughter-in-law Karen Yanchitis; and a sister Barbara Taylor.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 5 – 7 pm in the Kevin Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Forest City.
