Marian D. Slamas, 88 of Vandling, died Thursday morning at Allied Hospice, Scranton. Her husband Victor D. Slamas died in 2012.
Born June 5, 1930, in Orson, daughter of the late John and Mary Bili Sotak. Marian was a graduate of Preston High School and Ridley-Lowell Business School. She was a member of Ascension Parish. Along with her husband, they were the owners of the Main Hotel in Forest City. She was devoted lover of animals, particularly her cats and dogs. Marian loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are five children, Karen A. Hartt and husband Jerome, Lakeview; Victor B. Slamas, Vandling; Marie Hornbeck and husband Allan, Forest City; Sharon Kotowski and husband Paul, Forest City; and Mary Elizabeth Peters, Clarks Summit; eight grandchildren, Victoria Hartt Salinkas, Kristin Crisci, Ashley Hornbeck, Sara McGraw, Lauren Fitzgerald, Michael C. Novak, Shannon Marie Novak, and William V. Peters; four great grandchildren, Victoria, Hailey, Maddie, and Michael; a beloved niece Marlene Price; several nieces and nephews.
Also preceded in death by a son Daniel T. Salamas; sisters, Anna Rutherforth and Helen Price; and brothers, John, Joseph and Leo Sotak
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Viewing will be Sunday from 4 to 7 pm in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main Street, Simpson and from 9:30 until mass time at the church. Interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Forest City.
