James Matoushek, 71, of Waymart, died Friday evening at Regional Hospital, Scranton after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife of 51 years is the former Linda Gillette.

Born April 27, 1945 in Carbondale, he is the son of the late Albert and Louise Mitterer Matoushek. Jim was member of St. Mary's Church, Waymart, He was a stone sawyer at Gustin Stone Supply, Inc., Lakewood and he ran the family farm for most of his life. A graduate of Waymart High School, he was salutatorian of his graduating class. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Jim liked to play softball and participated in league bowling. He loved his grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Also surviving are four children, Robert Matoushek and wife Maryann, Elk Lake; Christopher Matoushek, Creamton; Kimberly Anderson and companion Edward Schumacher, Waymart; and David Matoushek, Creamton; three brothers Robert Matoushek and wife Anne, Rochester, NY; Louis Matoushek and wife Jean, Pleasant Mount; and Ronald Matoushek and wife Connie, Norfolk, VA; 9 grandchildren, Courtney, Alex, Shawney, Joey, Lance, John, Robbie, Heather, and Eddie; a great granddaughter Madelyn; childhood friends David “Rocky” Edwards, Waymart and Paul Gustin, Preston Park; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 24 at 10:00am in St. Mary’s Church, 242 Carbondale Rd, Waymart celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sitko. Friends are asked to go directly to the church.

Funeral arrangements by the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City.
