Dr. Manuel G. Masankay, 88, of Vandling, died Thursday morning at Wayne Woodland Mannor. His wife of 53 years is Ellen Masankay, Vandling.
Born January 13, 1936, in Quezon City, Philippines, he was the son of the late Arturo Masankay and Maria Gatdula. Dr. was a graduate of University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines. He was a member of Ascension Parish, Forest City. Prior to retirement, Dr. Masankay was a surgeon at Marion Community Hospital, Carbondale and later the doctor at SCI Waymart. Dr. was a member of the Forest City Rotary Club and the American Medical Association. He had a passion for cars and playing poker. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Also surviving are daughters Maria Masankay, Union Dale; and Melissa Daniels and husband Rick, Waymart; sons, Manny Masankay, FL; and Matthew Masankay, New York City; a sister Teresita; 7 grandchildren, Manuel Michael Jr., Kylie, Riley, Ashley, Ava, Addison, Ainsley; three great grandchildren; nieces and nephews including Robinette Ramos.
Also preceded in death by brother Arturo “Ben” Masankay.
As per Dr. Masankay's request there will be no services and cremation is through the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main St., Forest City.
