Thomas Mellow Obituary

Thomas A. Mellow, PhD, 72, of Forest City died Sunday morning at North Penn Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born April 23, 1945 in Forest City, he was the son of the late Fred and Kathryn Dunleavy Mellow. Tom was a member of Ascension Parish and sang in the St. Agnes Church Choir. He graduated from Forest City Regional High School, University of Scranton and University of Arizona. Tom held a doctorate in linguistics. Prior to retirement, Tom was a professor at Penn State University main campus and most recently was the German and Spanish teacher at Forest City Regional High School.

A member of the American Institute of Foreign Study, Tom enjoyed life and extensively traveled Europe. He loved his flower garden and his beagle Lobo. He was very kind and always there for his family.

The family would like to offer a thank you to the staff at North Penn Manor, especially Judy and Michelle, for the compassionate care given to Tom.

Surviving are sisters Mary Bravo, AZ; Catherine White, Union Dale; Patricia Mellow and companion Patricia McCabe, Forest City; brothers John Mellow and wife Linda, Pocono Lake; James Mellow and wife Melanie, Union Dale; Adrian Mellow and wife Jacque, GA; a sister-in-law, Jackie, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Also preceded in death by a brother Fred.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10am in St. Joseph's Church, Forest City. Viewing will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main Street, Simpson. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Tom's name to the Dessin Animal Shelter.
