Janet “Jan” Kirbert Beautz, 70, of Santa Cruz, CA died Saturday September 23.
Born in Cincinnati, OH on December 15, 1946 she had lived in Santa Cruz County since April of 1974.
Jan earned her Bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University, and a Law degree from Monterey College of Law. A family law lawyer, she was a neighborhood activist before entering politics, serving as president of the Live Oak Community Association and the Live Oak Little League.
She was elected for five consecutive 4-year terms as Santa Cruz County Supervisor, each time winning by a larger margin. She was also a board member on the State of California Water Quality Control Board.
Jan was fiercely committed to her district. She ensured that resources were there for the people who lived in the Live Oak area. She has left an impressive legacy.
She is survived by her husband Michael Beautz, Santa Cruz, CA; three sons, Eric, Luke, and Matthew; and five grandchildren, Katlynn, Melina, Misha, Charlotte, and Jackson.
A graveside service was held on Saturday October 7, 2017 at St. Mary's Russian Cemetery, Thompson.
Local arrangements were entrusted to the Kevin M. Lesjack Funeral Home, 513 Main Street, Forest City.
